What makes a punch list actually close out
- Group by location — the walker moves room to room, not trade to trade.
- One concrete action per line — "Caulk gap at backsplash," not "kitchen issues."
- Note the trade — so each line routes to whoever fixes it.
- Back it with a photo — a marked-up photo of the defect removes the "which scratch?" round-trip.
Tip: photograph each punch item before and after the fix. A before/after pair next to the checklist line is what gets a closeout signed off without a second site visit.
